Figures 1 |
I did gymnastics when I was young and have always enjoyed making dancing and acrobatic female figures. I made this sculpture in clay in Florence in 1995 and brought the plaster mould back home in the car. French customs officers insisted on taking it apart, which was a great nuisance as I had clamped it all together for ease of transportation. I finally cast it into plaster for an exhibition in June 2000. It is now in my garden. |
This is a small bronze which has not been filed and polished. It reminds me of a sculpture by Rodin which he called 'Despair'. I never really concieved it as a despairing image but it could easily be taken as one. |
This is another view of the dancer on my homepage. This is a small bronze, one of a series, after filing and polishing. |
