18th Century Italian stucco
panel at Prior Park, Bath,
restored by a team of sculptors
after being destroyed by fire.
The darker areas are fragments
of the original, which we set
into the panels in their original
places before remodelling all
the missing parts. We did this
by finding corresponding
fragments and copying them.
By the time all the fragments
had been set back in the wall
we knew all the shapes by
heart...rather like learning a
tune.
